Since at least 1957, the Bangalow Christmas Eve Carnival has brought together families, friends, and neighbours to celebrate the magic of Christmas in community.
Over the decades, it’s grown from wheelbarrow races, merry-go-rounds, and tiny train rides to a full evening of entertainment, food, festive lights, and warm Bangalow spirit.

What to Expect
Join us at the Bangalow Showground for a fun, safe, family-friendly evening filled with:
- Street performers & stilt walkers bringing colour and excitement.
- Face painting, tie-dye crafts, photo ops, and kid-friendly fun.
- Live music and holiday tunes.
- Santa arriving in firefighting style — fire engine lap-of-honour around 5pm, plus free ice blocks and lollies for the kids.
- A fireworks display to light up the sky around 7:45-8pm.
When & Where
Date: December 24th each year.
Time: 4:00pm to 8:00pm
Venue: Bangalow Showground — fields and green spaces between the Lions Kiosk and Moller Pavilion.
What to Bring
To make the night more comfortable and fun:
- Picnic blanket or low chairs, to relax with family and friends on the green spaces.
- Some coins: there’s usually a gold-coin entry donation, parking fees (often via Market Street).
- Your reusable water bottle — water refill stations will be available. Single-use plastic restrictions apply.
- If you’ll bring your dog, make sure it’s on a leash and that they are comfortable with fireworks if you stick around for them.
History & Change
Over the years, the Carnival has changed format and location:
- Originally the festivities used to fill the main street of Bangalow, with shops staying open late, street stalls, rides between the RSL Hall and Uniting Church, and the arrival of Santa on the old fire engine.
- Due to modern safety, insurance, traffic and permit challenges, the event now takes place at the Showgrounds, organised by the Bangalow Lions Club.
Join the Celebration
The Carnival is more than an event—it’s a way for us all to connect, celebrate, and share something special under the stars.
- Come along early with your family or friends.
- Support local food trucks, stalls and performers.
- Volunteer or lend a hand – every bit helps.
- Spread the word — the magic is best when shared!
